Professional Salon Academy, Inc. is dedicated to offering the latest techniques, equipment and instruction for you to get a great start in your cosmetology career.  You will find that the course offers many different options to pursue-you may choose to specialize in a specific area, and we will accommodate to the best of our ability for you.  Our students may wish to advance their knowledge in the world of hair color, hair cutting, Nail Technology or another facet they find intriguing. Whatever your choice in this industry, we are ready to help you achieve your goals!

Instruction takes place in a number of ways, also.  The first is classroom lecture.  Much of the time there will be lecture for theoretical areas of instruction.  The second is hands-on application, which is the most prevalent of teaching methods at Professional Salon Academy, Inc.  We believe that in order for you to achieve your maximum potential as a stylist, you need immediate hands-on education.  Beginning the very first days of your schooling, you will be “hands-on” in the classroom setting.  Finally, we offer an interactive study on the computer for students to use at their discretion for further information on a particular chapter, or for advanced studying for state exam and school final exam.

Exams will be given for all areas of education.  Beginning the first week, there will be exams for theoretical work completed in the classroom.  There is a calendar to follow for chapter assignments.   These tests are all required to get your diploma, and we grade on the following scale:

                                    96-100% =Excellent

                                    89-95 % = Above average

                                    82-88 % = Average

                                    75-81% = Below Average

74.9% and below is a Failing score

Incomplete test = 0, or no grade recorded

There are also Practical exams given at intervals during your schooling allowing us to determine where your technical skill levels are.  The first practical exam is given at or near 240 hours, and is given so we can determine that you have enough basic knowledge in each subject to be servicing clients on the sales floor.  The second exam is given at or near 775 hours to ensure that your education is where it should be for mid-term in your clock hours, and that you are making the progress we expect for the hours completed.  The final 1350 hour test is given at some time once you have clocked your 1350th hour, and before your last week of attendance.  This test ensures us that you have competencies to sufficiently service clientele in a salon setting, and that at any time, the safety of that clientele will not be in question.  Once you have taken your 1350 practical test, you will be scheduled to take the Final Written  Exam for school- given after completion of the practical test to allow sufficient study time.  We give this test to insure that you are adequately prepared for your written exam for licensure in the state of Minnesota.  Once you have successfully passed the 1350 exams, both practical and written, you may schedule to take your written test for Cosmetology Licensure.

Our curriculum is based on giving you a very in-depth foundation on which to build the rest of your career.  We offer many areas of expertise, offering instructional staff with experience of over 60 years.  All areas, including, but not limited to, styling, cutting, chemical restructuring, coloring, shampooing, manicuring , pedicuring, artificial nail application and  skincare are taught in basics, classroom, and followed up with on the sales floor on a regular basis.  Your hands-on education will far exceed your textbook, with a wide variety of customer options given here at Professional Salon Academy, Inc.
